The cause for the change was scheduling complications associated with the NBA In-Season Tournament.
Additionally, the game will now tip off at 7:30 pm ET.
The reasoning for the change appears to be related to the teams' records. The Knicks are currently 17-13, good for 7th place in the NBA Eastern Conference standings. The Pistons, on the other hand, have lost 27 straight games and are all but guaranteed to miss the postseason by a long shot.
With that said, after the In-Season Tournament, the Knicks were supposed to have 40 home games and 42 road games. Now, they get a standard 41-41. The Pistons, meanwhile, get 42 road games as a result of their performance thus far.

The Knicks continue to impress this season behind the play of guard Jalen Brunson. The guard has averaged an astonishing 26 points, six assists, and five rebounds per game so far this year. The team also features a solid supporting cast including Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, and Brunson's college teammate Josh Hart.
The Pistons, unfortunately, are making NBA history for all of the wrong reasons. The team recently lost its 27th game in a row, setting an NBA record for consecutive losses in a season.
Detroit heads to Boston next to take on a dominant Celtics team, which almost certainly means a 28th straight loss to tie the all-time record. Then it's a home game to close out 2023 against a struggling Toronto Raptors squad, which should be a good opportunity to end this streak.
Hopefully for Detroit fans, they can notch a win soon. Losing at this pace hasn't just been hard on the team, it's actually cost them a home game against the Knicks.
