New York Knicks power forward Enes Kanter is embracing his head coach David Fizdale's system ahead of the new NBA season. Fizdale was appointed by the Knicks this offseason as the organization said goodbye to Jeff Hornacek, and Kanter believes the Knicks roster is already buying into what he’s implementing so far via Chris Iseman of NorthJersey.com.

“He’s the type of coach that tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear,” Kanter said. “He’s being real with everybody. He’s been already changing the culture. And I just love how much confidence he gives to players. That’s why players are so much more comfortable and want to go out there and play for him.”

Fizdale has been in contact with Kanter this summer, and their conversations have been positive. The pair recently had dinner in Chicago in May, and the new man in charge has encouraged the 26-year-old to increase his shooting range out to the 3-point line, something he’s since been working on.

“He told me we know what you can do, now we want to you to stretch the floor and start shooting threes,” Kanter said. “From that day, that was my focus. I’ve been working on the three a lot. …If I can stretch the floor, that would give other teams a harder time. All the point guards or whoever, the smaller players, can drive inside and finish it.”

The six-foot-eleven forward only attempted two 3-point attempts last campaign. Despite being one of the premier post players in the NBA, Kanter understands he needs to adapt to the ever-changing NBA landscape.

“If you look at it now, you don’t really see back-to-the-basket players anymore,” Kanter said. “If the league is changing, you can always add new stuff to your game so I think it’s very important. Every summer you have to add one new thing to your game,” Kanter said. “So I think this year it was my three-point shot. That was my focus.”
