Kristaps Porzingis and the New York Knicks failed to finish what they started as they lost to the New Orleans Pelicans, 123-118, in overtime.

The 7-foot-3 power forward was held scoreless during the fourth quarter and only made one field goal in overtime. Despite scoring 25 points and having five steals, Porzingis was overpowered by Anthony Davis who scored 48 points and grabbed 17 boards.

In an interview with Greg Joyce of the New York Post, Porzingis said they’ve had many similar games like this. He then added:

“It’s painful. We need to do a better job at the end of games. It’s simple.”

Porzingis then quoted a famous line commonly attributed to Franklin D. Roosevelt:

“They made some good plays, but today one quote popped through my mind. It was, ‘A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.’ So we just have to stay positive and try to find something positive.”

The Latvian unicorn chose to be optimistic and looked at this loss as part of his learning curve. Porzingis missed two crucial shots in the game — one toward the end of regulation and another during the closing minutes of overtime.

When asked about it, the Knicks talisman said:

“You want to make every big shot you get. It was a great look. My teammates got me open, big shot, just missed it.”

This may just be Kristaps Porzingis' third year in the NBA but he is constantly evolving, particularly with his mindset.

“The main thing is for us to win. If I just make the right plays, even if I score 15 or 20, and we win the game, that’s better than trying to force things and trying to get that basket for the team. It takes a lot of energy to do that. I’m learning this year, I’m learning a lot,” Porzingis said.
