If there are any New York Knicks fans out there that are secretly praying for a miracle wherein LeBron James somehow decides to take his talents to the Big Apple to be the new face of the franchise, then I guess now would be the time to stop dreaming. That is if you take the word of Knicks icon Charles Oakley, who himself recently revealed how the Los Angeles Lakers star once told him that he has no intention of joining the Knicks — ever.

In his new book, The Last Enforcer, Oakley unsurprisingly talks about his sour relationship with Knicks owner James Dolan. The former All-Star discussed the infamous incident from 2017 wherein Oakley was forcefully removed from Madison Square Garden during a Knicks game and later arrested. According to Oakley, Dolan is the only reason why LeBron never wants to join the Knicks:

“You would have thought I did something to his wife,” Oakley wrote (h/t Jonathan Sherman of Lakers Daily). “S—, Latrell Sprewell, who played five seasons with the Knicks, cursed at Dolan in front of Dolan’s wife when he returned to face the Knicks back in 2003, and they still became friends. I didn’t do anything to this man. What did I ever say that was so bad that he would ignore me like that? I wondered. Man, I wanted to hit him in the head.

“I walked back to LeBron and said, ‘This motherf—– (Dolan) wouldn’t shake my hand,'” Oakley continued. “All LeBron said was: ‘This is why I’m never going to New York.'”

At this point in his career, the odds of LeBron leaving the Lakers are slim. This makes the possibility of him joining the Knicks before he hangs it up extremely improbable — if not impossible. However, there was a time in James' career wherein a move to New York actually made a bit of sense. After all, it would only be fitting that The King would be the face of one of the most renowned sports franchises in the world while also making the mecca of basketball his home. To some extent, it just felt like a match made in heaven.

Sorry Knicks fans, but as it turns out, LeBron never really wanted to join the Knicks. Apparently, James just doesn't like the idea of working under James Dolan — at least according to Charles Oakley.
