Russell Westbrook still has yet to publicly comment over Kevin Durant‘s departure. Sources close to him may be giving us somewhat of an idea of how he's feeling.
In typical Russell Westbrook fashion, it looks like rage is what's fueling him now.
Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman examined the Westbrook situation for the Thunder in a column on Sunday. He provides this interesting note:
“Westbrook has given the Thunder no indication that he currently wants out. To the contrary, one source described him as ticked off about the Kevin Durant departure, determined for this new challenge and eager for the season to start: ‘He’s ready.'”
Sounds a lot like Russ.
We've all seem glimpses of a Westbrook that wanted his own team or to take the reins from Durant. This past season, Thunder coach Billy Donovan gave the keys to Westbrook more than ever. He went on to have essentially the best year of his career. There's no telling what Russ may be capable of without KD taking some of the pie.
It's more complicated than this though. The Thunder have reportedly been trying to extend Westbrook's contract, although it may not necessarily be in Westbrook's best interest to do this. OKC is undoubtedly worried Westbrook will leave town in the same way Durant did, with the Thunder receiving nothing in return for the star when he becomes a free agent after next season.
It might also be tough to trade Westbrook unless the perfect trade partner emerges.

“Extensions at this time aren’t in a player’s best interest anymore. He won’t do it…
“Russ is in control of the situation. Not any team. He controls his destiny. But if a team is going to get him, they need a long-term commitment.”
Durant's departure has accelerated the conversation around Westbrook's future with the Thunder. Fans in OKC can feel a little excited today if the “He's ready” comments are true.
