The last three seasons have been excruciatingly tough for the Philadelphia 76ers and their fans. Their “process” of hoarding and valuing draft picks more than tangible players led to back-to-back-to-back years with under 20 wins, including just 10 in 2015-16.

Will it all be worth it in the end with a renaissance of winning basketball in Philly in the years to come? The jury is still out there, but head coach Brett Brown saw Tuesday night's victory in the NBA draft lottery as a form of validation for what they've being trying to accomplish.

From the Associated Press:

“The pain that we've all gone through, the pain of losing is real. You can't camouflage it,” said coach Brett Brown, who represented the 76ers on stage. “The city has been incredibly patient, tolerant, choose any word you want. I think this validates some of the pain we went through.”

After just barely finishing ahead of the worst record in NBA history, the Sixers had a 25 percent chance of taking the first pick in the lottery (26.9 percent if you add the 1.9 percent chance that the Kings had; Philly had the right to swap picks with Sacramento).

This was the 76ers' championship essentially, and unlike the past few years where they selected no higher than third, they'll get to choose their number one priority without having to let the chips fall into place before them. From the AP:

”We can now make the decision all by ourselves,” said Brown, who is 47-199 in his three seasons. ”We don't have to wait and see what someone else does. It gives us the injection we need.”
