Al Horford, who recently agreed to join the Philadelphia 76ers, announced on Friday that he won't play for his native country of the Dominican Republic in this summer's FIBA World Cup.

In a post shared on his Twitter account, the 33-year-old Horford wrote in Spanish that he wouldn't be able to participate in the Dominican Republic's World Cup bid this year due to obligations associated with switching teams.

Horford, a five-time All-Star with the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics, agreed to a four-year deal with the Sixers worth slightly under $100 million. He will be spending the summer getting acquainted with the Philadelphia organization and the City of Brotherly Love.

Nevertheless, the University of Florida product also announced he'll hold some basketball clinics in the Dominican Republic's capital Santo Domingo during the summer.

Horford has averaged 14.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 786 career appearances, shooting 52.5 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from three and 75.4 percent from the free-throw line. He was selected with the third overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks following a distinguished NCAA career where he was a part of Billy Donovan's back-to-back national title winning Florida Gators squad.

The Sixers will attempt to build a frontcourt consisting of All-Stars Horford and Joel Embiid. Horford is known as a disruptive defender and solid screener and distributor on offense. The team will likely be tall and athletic as point-forward Ben Simmons, who Philly signed to a max extension this summer, stars as floor general.
