How many times this season have we seen headlines like ‘Ben Simmons is the first player with this stat line since Magic Johnson', or ‘Ben Simmons breaks Oscar Robertson's record'? He is this good. As of the All-Star break, Simmons averages 16.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists on 52.7 percent shooting from the field.

These are eye-opening numbers for any player and even more for a rookie. All this had led to Simmons being compared to all-time greats like Johnson and Robertson, and he appreciates and is humbled by being mentioned in the same category as them this early in his career.

Simmons spoke to Keith Pompey from Philly Inquirer about the comparisons:

“That's amazing, it's kind of surreal. But I want to break those records. And I think it's really cool to be up there with those guys and measure with those guys. And it means a lot to get stats but, you know, as I said, I always just want to win.”

It is impressive to see how Simmons is already being compared with pioneers and all-time greats just 54 games into his professional NBA career. If he is this good as a rookie, then what can we expect in five years? Simmons was asked if he thought he was just scratching the surface of his complete potential.

Here's his response.

“For sure… I fell like I am just getting started. So, it is my first [50 plus] games, yeah, so for me it is kind of scary.”

I think it is not him who should be scared, but his opponents. Scouts were not kidding when they said Simmons had LeBron James potential.
