Philadelphia 76ers prized big man Joel Embiid has struggled to stay healthy in the postseason thus far. The 24-year-old is now in danger of missing Game 2 of their second-round series matchup against the Toronto Raptors with an illness, which is on top of the lingering knee issue he has also been dealing with.

76ers head coach Brett Brown recently shed some light on how he tries to manage the health of his superstar, stating that he is always thinking about the long-term.

“It's always about the end game,” the coach says, via ESPN's Jackie MacMullan. “I'm constantly trying to determine what are the ripple effects of Jo being so competitive and so emotional that he's going to force-feed something that he just shouldn't do.”

Brown went on to explain how the young and sometimes overly enthusiastic Embiid might end up hurting himself if he refuses to listen to his body. In coach Brown's mind, this is where he will need to intervene to make sure that Embiid's decisions do not end up haunting him years from now.

“I'm not participating in that. I'll have nothing to do with it,” he added. “He's going to end up — or has a chance to end up — as one of the greatest players who ever lived. It's completely driven by his health. He's very bright, very prideful. But his emotions can't trump reckless, irresponsible action either by him or us to go do something he shouldn't.”

We couldn't agree more with Brown here. Injuries have always been Embiid's Achilles heel, and unfortunately, this is what might just hold him back from reaching his true potential.
