Selected with the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid immediately was plagued with a variety of injuries that hindered his progress. In the years following, the Sixers went on with their process and more lottery picks were selected.

In 2016, Embiid began his career in an amazing way, proving his critics wrong. Now, Embiid is averaging 23.6 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He is the Sixers' franchise superstar, yet he is still restricted from playing back-to-backs games. That restriction has finally been lifted tonight as the Sixers compete against the Indiana Pacers.

In an article by the Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey, Embiid remarked on his first career back-to-back games.

“I’m excited. I feel like I’ve been waiting for this moment and I’m ready to go out there and prove everybody wrong.”

Embiid's game restrictions were initially put in place to prevent stress on his body while getting the center used to the rigors of NBA life. Hopefully, this trend will become permanent moving forward. The Sixers are on the verge of making the postseason and they will need their franchise superstar to be ready for the challenge.

Embiid is also set to play in back-to-back All-Star events, highlighted by a start on the Feb. 18 All-Star Game as part of Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry's team.

It is scary to think that as good as he is right now, Embiid has not been fully unleashed by the Sixers. He is primed to be among the best big men in the NBA for a long time as long as his body permits.
