Joel Embiid did not look like his usual self on Saturday night as the Sixers suffered a 110-102 loss against the Toronto Raptors in Game 4 of this opening-round series. The Sixers superstar did not play like the frontrunner for this season's MVP title and you have to wonder if his thumb injury played a role in his rather lackluster performance.
To be clear, Embiid still posted 21 points and eight rebounds, but this wasn't what most were expecting from the Sixers big man in a close-out game. The five-time All-Star has been playing through a lingering thumb injury and it's possible that this issue had some sort of impact on him in Game 4. Be that as it may, Embiid made it abundantly clear that he intends to keep on playing and that even if surgery might be required, this won't be stopping him from suiting up in the playoffs (h/t NBA insider Tim Bontemps of ESPN):
Joel Embiid says he believes he will be able to play through the playoffs and, if the MRI confirms he needs to have a surgical procedure on his thumb, he will do so after the playoffs are over.

The MRI is scheduled for Sunday and the test results will obviously have a significant impact on Embiid's injury status. However, it sounds like the pain is tolerable and at this point, this doesn't appear to be a serious concern for the Sixers superstar.
