Philadelphia 76ers vice president of communications Dave Sholler has called a New York Daily News story on Sixers All-Star Ben Simmons a “steaming pile of trash.”
The newspaper wrote a story citing sources which claimed Sixers general manager Elton Brand made it known to team ownership they needed to consider trading Simmons because he “was simply not coachable and a regular-season player annually exposed in the playoffs.”
The report also claimed Simmons missed a March game against the Orlando Magic because he was partying the night before with his girlfriend.
The Sixers are standing behind Simmons and Brand.
This is one of the most irresponsible hack jobs I’ve ever seen in more than a decade of working in sports. Factual inaccuracies, made-up stories, and references to convos that never happened. This is a steaming pile of trash. Steaming. Pile.

The Sixers and Brooklyn Nets are tied at 1-1 in the first round. Game 3 is on Thursday in Brooklyn.
Simmons was asked about the story and said, “I am not worried about it; are you talking about the regular season. Unless you want to talk about something else, [go] somewhere else with it. [It's] The play-offs right now.”
It's nice to see the Sixers refute this report. The best way to get ahead of a rumor is by denying it.
After struggling in Game 1, Simmons rebounded well in Game 2.
The reigning Rookie of the Year finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists in 29 minutes while shooting 8-of-12 from the field.
