In his third year in the league, Philadelphia 76ers big man Jahlil Okafor has found himself in a growingly disappointing situation.

The 76ers have continued to shop around Okafor, but no deal has truly formulated over the last several months. According to David Aldridge of NBA.com, the 76ers actually had a deal in place to move Okafor to the Blazers prior to the trade deadline that never went through.

The Sixers were close to a deal last February that would have sent Okafor to Portland. But sources indicated, then and now, that the Blazers changed their plans and went in instead on a deal with Denver that brought them Jusuf Nurkic in exchange for Mason Plumlee. Deals fall through all the time, but this looked especially bad because the 76ers told Okafor to stay home and not go on a road trip with them since they believed a deal was imminent.

With the Blazers moving forward with Jusuf Nurkic as possibly the long-term future in the frontcourt, it should rule them out of the mix. It only adds another wrinkle to the standing between both Okafor and the organization as it only worsened the working relationship moving forward.

Things have reached a point of where Okafor is entirely out of the rotation as essentially a healthy scratch on a nightly basis. On top of that, he had also asked for a buyout but was denied by the team after the decision was made not to pick up his option for the 2018-19 season.

Ultimately, it could be just a matter of time before the 76ers finally do decide to part ways with Okafor.
