The Phoenix Suns introduced Ricky Rubio on Tuesday evening, and the former Jazz player voiced nothing but positive forecasts in his introduction, claiming the Suns were “building something special.”

Rubio is only 28, but he will be taking the veteran role on a very young Suns team.

The Suns' core is built around a bunch of youngsters. Devin Booker, the face of the franchise, is only 22 years old; Deandre Ayton, the 2018 top overall pick, is 20; while Mikal Bridges is only 22.

Last year, the Suns showed their youth both in positive and negative ways. Bridges and Ayton had solid rookie seasons and gave the franchise hope that they are good enough to build a team around. Booker had his usual amazing offensive season, setting a new personal high by averaging 26.6 points a game.

However, the team finished last in the Western Conference, winning only 19 games. Their defense was atrocious the entire year, and the point guard spot sorely lacking.

This is where Ricky Rubio comes in. The Suns hope that he can settle at least some of the maladies that plagued them last season. Rubio will bring a level head and some excellent passing to the Phoenix organization, as well as sorely needed experience.

While he might not be able to magically turn Phoenix into a playoff team this year, Rubio is correct that the Suns are on their way back to being a threat in the Western Conference.
