The San Antonio Spurs announced several new hires and faces in the organization's front office and coaching staff on Friday afternoon.
Mitch Johnson joins five-time NBA champion head coach Gregg Popovich as an assistant coach. The Spurs also announced Dave Talep as their director of player personnel, Brandon James as vice president of basketball administration and Phil Cullen as director of basketball operations.

Along with the various front-office makeovers, the Spurs also hired former NBA player Landry Fields as their general manager for G League affiliate franchise Austin Spurs and Ty Self as the assistant general manager of the developmental team.

Fields, now 31 years old, was a second-round pick of the New York Knicks in the 2010 NBA Draft. He spent two seasons with the Knicks, including notably letting phenomenon Jeremy Lin crash on his couch.
As a free agent in 2012, he signed with the Toronto Raptors to stay in the Atlantic Division before fizzling out of the league by 2015. Since then, Fields retired from his playing days and begun a post-career scouting for the Spurs. Fields was announced a college scout for the organization this time three years ago.
The near end of the summer has marked very little instability or change within the San Antonio organization. Outside of the controversial blip of Marcus Morris changing his free agency decision and spurning Popovich's team, the Spurs have remained low-key in the offseason. They drafted three players in June and signed two role players, Trey Lyles and DeMarre Carroll, during free agency.
