Prior to the San Antonio Spurs committing to a three-year, $72.3 million extension with former All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge earlier this week, there was much-perceived uncertainty surrounding his future with the team.

A bulk of this thought process stemmed from the Spurs reportedly shopping him around briefly during this past summer. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, there were, in fact, serious conversations by the Spurs about moving Aldridge. (H/T HoopsHype)
It had been a bumpy last several months for Aldridge with the Spurs as his struggles on the court helped further fuel the team's willingness to make him available in trade talks as one of the central trade pieces. This had also created the growing perspective that his best days on the court may be behind him.
Along those same lines, had the Cleveland Cavaliers been willing to ship All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to the Spurs, this may very well be an entirely different dialogue around Aldridge. That said, San Antonio's decision to hang onto the 32-year-old has shifted things toward a renewed effort in making him a critical piece to the puzzle moving forward over the next few seasons.
With a new contract extension in place, the focus for Aldridge can revert back to once again playing at an All-Star level while helping his team compete for an NBA title.
