Sometimes the numbers don't match the eye test.
That is certainly the case with this graphic representing the Spurs' production when Kawhi Leonard doesn't play this season — something that has happened nine times, most recently in Game 6 of their series vs. the Rockets when they closed out Houston with a 39-point win.

This doesn't feel like it should make sense considering the MVP-caliber season Leonard had, carrying the Spurs more than ever on offense while remaining the premiere perimeter defender.
There's no denying the Spurs have one of the best systems in the league that has allowed them to remain elite for the last 20 years, never relying too much on stars and utilizing every man on the roster. But still when at their best, they've received the best play from their All-Stars as well.
This stat may also just be an example of a small sample size and definitely doesn't unequivocally suggest San Antonio is actually better without Leonard. If anything, it just goes to show how good the Spurs can still be without their star.
