Before his debut on Saturday night against the Denver Nuggets, newly-acquired Phoenix Suns point guard Elfrid Payton knew he would get questions about his trademark hairstyle once he got to the desert.
Payton, who was traded from the Orlando Magic to the Suns right before the conclusion of Thursday's NBA trade deadline in exchange for a 2018 second-round draft pick, opened up to Suns broadcaster Tom Leander during an interview at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Saturday.
Although Leander said he would give him some slack and not ask him questions about his hair, Payton smiled and talked about it anyway.
“The most asked question is how I get it like this,” Payton said of his hair. “And I think people want this cool story and all these different products and stuff. But I really don't use products on my hair or anything like that. It's just kind of how my hair grows. I just wash and condition my hair. Eventually, I'm going to cut this. Probably soon, too. Because I'm kind of getting over questions about it.”
A video of the interview between Payton and Leander, which was posted to the Suns' official Twitter account, can be viewed below.

You've really got to like Payton's positive attitude and what he wants to bring to this young Suns team going forward.
The 22-year-old Payton, who was selected No. 10 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft out of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, averaged 13.0 points, 6.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in 44 starts for the Magic this season. Hopefully, Payton can help the Suns (18-38) turn things around a little bit as Phoenix had lost nine of its last 10 games heading into Saturday night.
Unfortunately, Phoenix fell 123-113 at home in a high-scoring affair to the Nuggets in an effort where Payton had 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting, nine assists and six rebounds in his Suns debut.
