The biggest game of the Week 2 college football weekend will be underway Saturday morning as Matt Rhule's Nebraska Cornhuskers and Coach Prime's Colorado Buffaloes will renew this rivalry in front of a national audience! It doesn't get much better than this folks! Let's check out our college football odds series where our Nebraska-Colorado prediction and pick will be revealed.

Unfortunately enough, Nebraska is a far cry of what they were when they were the most dominant college football program from the 1990s and 2000s. Since the legendary Tom Osborne rode off into the sunset in 1997 after capturing three national titles and winning a whopping 255 wins during his Nebraska tenure, Nebraska has slowly faded into college football irrelevancy. Nevertheless, this is still a very proud program with some of the more passionate fans you could ever find. After suffering yet another one-score loss to Minnesota by a score of 13-10 in Week 1, can the Huskers get their first victory in the Matt Rhule era against the highly publicized Buffaloes in Boulder?

Did we possibly just see college football as we know it changes forever? In all honesty, very few predicted that Colorado would storm into Fort Worth and knock off a school in TCU that was in the National Championship not even nine months ago, but that is exactly what happened. With 86 new players on this roster from a year ago coming in the form of the transfer portal, CU is officially here to stay. In a flash, Coach Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes instantly became the biggest story in all of sports and America will be tuning in to see if the Buffs can back up the hype yet again.

Why Nebraska Will Cover The Spread

At first glance, Nebraska has dominated this rivalry over the years with Colorado with a 49-20-2 edge since the first matchup between the schools was played all the way back in 1898. Still, the Huskers have lost two straight against the Buffaloes back in 2018 and 2019 and have not downed CU since the 2010 season when both Nebraska and Colorado were still in the Big 12 Conference.

With this historic rivalry set to kick off on national television, this Saturday could be the perfect way for the Cornhuskers to bounce back in the biggest way possible after falling short to the Minnesota Golden Gophers. In order to make a gigantic statement on the road and cover the spread in the meantime, the Huskers' main priority is to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Let's face it, Nebraska simply doesn't have the skills guys to compete with CU on the outside, but they sure do have an advantage with the big boys up front. Despite scoring only ten points against Minnesota, the Huskers at least managed to tally 181 yards on the ground and also held the Gophers to a measly 55 rushing yards. In short, Nebraska cannot afford to let this turn into a shootout, so dominating the time of possession and pounding the rock down the throats of the Buffaloes will prove to be a must.

Why Colorado Will Cover The Spread

Throughout the countless memories that Colorado has had with Nebraska over the years, there's no doubt that there's some bad blood between these two schools. Turning the clock all the way back to 1984 when legendary CU head coach Bill McCartney took the reigns in Boulder, it was he who circled Nebraska on the schedule and “declared” the Cornhuskers as the Buffs new rival. After many nationally relevant games coming down to the wire with championship aspirations on the line over the years, it is truly difficult to not say this is a pertinent rivalry even though the two schools are no longer in the same conference.

Yes, it's only been one game, but this has been well-documented as being one of the greatest single-season turnarounds that the history of college football has ever seen. Let's be real; Colorado won only ONE game in 2022, and now they are the biggest thing in college football since sliced bread.

All in all, the #22 team in the nation's fate will be in the hands of their big three in Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, and Dylan Edwards. Bafflingly enough, this talented trio was the heartbeat of the Buffaloes in last weekend's triumph, and while CU has increased their skill at nearly every position, it's hard to imagine that the Cornhuskers will be able to shut down these three.

Not to mention, but Colorado has a good chance to win the turnover battle. After committing only one giveaway against TCU, Nebraska gave up the ball a colossal four times. Simply put, if CU wins the turnover margin, then the Buffaloes should be guaranteed to cover the spread.

Final Nebraska-Colorado Prediction & Pick

All of the hype is on Colorado's side in this one, but rivalry games always seem to come down to the wire. However, at the end of the day, Colorado's talent reigns supreme and will be enough to cover the spread in Boulder.

Final Nebraska-Colorado Prediction & Pick: Colorado -2.5 (-105)
