Dwight Howard was recently sent to the Brooklyn Nets via trade. Point guard D'Angelo Russell reacted to the big news.
As per Michael Scotto of The Athletic, Russell said that Howard can definitely help the Nets rack up some wins:
“Man, he’s definitely a piece that can help any team. He’s well respected around the league and definitely put in the damage to earn that respect. So, like I said, it’s big-time news.”
Howard, 32, was sent from the Charlotte Hornets to the Nets for center Timofey Mozgov, two second-round picks, and cash considerations. Howard, an eight-time All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year Awardee, has a $23.8 million expiring contract. Last season, he logged in 16.6 points per game, 12.5 rebounds, 1.6 blocks in 81 games.
With the trade, the Hornets have opened up two max-salary slots for 2019 offseason. They will save some $17 million on the trade in the 2019-20 season. According to reports, the Hornets will receive Nets' second-round pick (No. 45) in Thursday's NBA draft and a 2021 second-round pick. Mozgov has two years and $32.7 million left on his contract.
The Nets will be Howard's third team in three years. While Russell knows the presence that Howard brings, analysts have pointed out the big man's value has diminished rapidly over the past few years.
Is he capable of rejuvenating his career with the Nets?
