Cam Johnson is still with the Brooklyn Nets, but at some point during the 2023 NBA free agency, it looked as though there was a chance that he would be going somewhere else, especially with the rumored threat of the Detroit Pistons to sign the former North Carolina Tar Heels star. Mikal Bridges couldn't help himself from expressing his relief over the fact that he would continue to run alongside Johnson after the latter guaranteed his commitment to the team for years to come after signing a contract with Brooklyn earlier this July.

Via Brian Lewis of the New York Post:

“Oh, [it’s] great,” Bridges, 26, said. “That was one of the biggest things I was just hoping for and nervous about other teams.

“I think Detroit was in talks a lot, and I know Monty is over there, so I’m just like, ‘All right now, calm down. Don’t take Twin away.’ So definitely very, very for the team — outside my selfish reasons, but for the team — big-time. We need Cam. And for him to get paid and kind of get that baby weight off his shoulders, I think it’s great for the team and great for him.”

Johnson, who was traded to the Nets along with Bridges by the Phoenix Suns last February, inked a four-year deal worth $94.5 million and with a maximum value of $108 million in the offseason by Brooklyn.

In 25 appearances for the Nets in the 2022-23 NBA season, Johnson averaged 16.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 37.2 percent from behind the arc.
