Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant found quite a bit of amusement in multiple ESPN reporters getting testy about the 2020-21 NBA MVP race.

Brian Windhorst, Tim McMahon, and Tim Bontemps discussed the MVP candidates on the latest edition of The Hoop Collective podcast.

Windhorst suggested at one point Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was the clear frontrunner. According to Bontemps, that directly contradicted polling of league personnel. Bontemps said Windhorst was making up the rules, even saying he was being a “jackass.”

Durant, in a since-deleted response, joked about the three reporters scrapping to settle their apparent differences.

It comes as no surprise Durant would revel in this strange squabbling. He has had a complicated relationship with the media, especially in recent seasons.

The former league MVP also said recently he believes the criteria for the award are constantly changing, saying he doesn't really have any investment in who wins the award.

Whether the considerations for what makes an MVP have or have not changed, the 2020-21 race itself has certainly taken twists and turns.

Both James and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid were among the top contenders for the better part of the first half, but injuries have lessened their chances. Durant's teammate, James Harden, was making a huge push after winning Player of the Month in March. However, he has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has been a candidate throughout the season and might be running away with it given his consistent health and production.

Kevin Durant might not care much about the award, but he and his associates seem to be getting a kick out of media in-fighting.
