Producer and writer Ryan Murphy is bringing the tragic story of former NFL star Aaron Hernandez to FX. On Sunday, one of the upcoming show's biggest casting decisions involving Tim Tebow was made public.

Patrick Schwarzenegger, son of star actor and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, announced that he had landed the role of Tebow in Murphy's “American Sports Story”.

“Pumped to formally announce that I’m playing Tim Tebow in the FX series on Aaron Hernandez. Wild & insane story. Thankful to @ryanmurphyprod for giving me opportunity & believing in me,” Schwarzenegger announced on X, the social media network formerly known as Twitter.

Schwarzenegger shared an image that announced that Josh Andrés Rivera would be playing the role of Hernandez.

Schwarzenegger has been following in his famous father's footsteps for years. In addition to modeling, he's acted in movies such as “The Benchwarmers”, “Grown Ups 2”, and “Moxie”. He's also appeared in television shows “Scream Queens”, “The Staircase”, and “Gen V”.

The saga involving Aaron Hernandez and Tim Tebow is not the first time Murphy has tackled a tragic story from the world of the NFL.

In 2016, his 10-part series for FX, “The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story”, told the story of Simpson's murder case. The series was met with critical acclaim, and would go on to win eight Emmy Awards.

Tebow and Hernandez played for three seasons together at the University of Florida. The duo was instrumental in helping lead the Gators to the 2009 BCS National Championship Game, where Florida faced off against the Oklahoma Sooners. The Gators would prevail 24-14, with Tebow winning the game's offensive MVP award.
