The 2024 NFL Preseason kicked off with an intense matchup between the Chicago Bears and the Houston Texans in Canton, Ohio on Thursday night. The first half was full of action, and the Bears eventually took a 21-17 lead. However, the game was suspended with 3:31 left in the third quarter due to inclement weather, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced via its X (formerly Twitter page). Thus, fans displayed various polar reactions to the news.

Some fans agreed with the call to cancel the game, citing player and fan safety as paramount. However, others could not resist their desire for the contest to continue:

“Man, it was just getting good. Why are they not in a dome?” one fan on X commented under the announcement.

“We will wait,” another user claimed.

Several fans wanted the players to resume, thinking that rain would not be much of a deterrent. However, the weather became serious enough to stop play.

Regardless, Bears fans were happy their team had the last lead of the contest:

“BEARS WON,” one fan emphatically commented.

Of course, opposing fans joined the mayhem and quickly put Chicago enthusiasts' excitement out.

“Bears can only win when the weather cancels the rest of the game lol,” the user commented.

Despite the differing opinions, one fan perfectly captured the social media madness with one statement:

“It's only the NFL diehards staying tuned in to see if Q3 of a preseason game resumes after a lightning delay.”

Bears, Texans put forth promising product in Hall of Fame Game

Chicago and Houston boast two of the most exciting rosters in the league. One of the most anticipated matchups during the 2024 season will be rookie quarterback Caleb Williams versus star second-year QB CJ Stroud. Neither played on Thursday night, but their teammates put forth promising products.

Brett Rypien led the Bears' passing attack with 166 yards and an impressive three touchdowns before the game's suspension. On the other side, Davis Mills amassed 102 yards and 1 TD for the Texans.

Houston outscored the Bears 7-0 in the first quarter, but Chicago stole momentum, taking a second-quarter lead and holding it into the third. Another bright spot for the Bears was the ground game for Khalil Herbert, who rushed for 35 yards on four carries.

Fans on both sides got a taste of exciting things to come during the Fall season. It will be intriguing to see how Houston and Chicago fare when their starters take the field together for the first during the 2024 preseason.
