The Chicago Bears are taking on their first 2024 NFL Preseason matchup against the Houston Texans in the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame game. Several familiar faces are lacing up, but many eyes will be on Bears rookie Rome Odunze. Odunze got fans excited by paying the perfect homage to legendary wide receiver and special teams member Devin Hester.

Odunze arrived at Thursday night's game sporting a dark blue jersey with Devin Hester's No. 23 on the front, as shown by the NFL's X (formerly Twitter) account:

Fans were stoked to see Odunze in Hester's threads. Here are a few noteworthy reactions to the rookie's entrance:

“Immediate Hall of Fame trajectory for Odunze,” one X user wrote.

“Rome is going to be a problem,” another user commented.

One fan gave a simple but powerful one-word response:

“Aura,” the fan commented.

Rome Odunze hopes to help elevate the Bears to a similar if not greater level than Devin Hester once did. Hester played seven of his eight NFL seasons with Chicago, amassing three All-Pro and four Pro Bowl honors. He holds the league record for most return touchdowns (20) and most punt return TDs (14). Moreover, Hester is being enshrined in the Class of 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Bears fans will never forget the time Hester returned the opening kickoff of Super Bowl 41 against the Indianapolis Colts for a touchdown. He is a Chicago legend who several players look up to.

Rome Odunze looks to create a legacy of his own as he begins his rookie year. He is joined by fellow Bears rookie and 2024 No. 1 pick Caleb Williams.

Chicago is getting the 2024-25 campaign started with a useful preseason matchup against the Texans. Houston added several weapons during the offseason, but the Bears are no fluke either. It will be interesting to see how Chicago meshes during this exciting time.
