After thirteen years in the NFL, defensive tackle Haloti Ngata decided to hang up his cleats and his pads this offseason.

Giving new meaning to the phrase, going out on top, Ngata posted a message on his Instagram account announcing his decision along with a photo of him atop Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Ngata was a first-round pick by the Ravens in 2006, he spent nine years with the franchise winning a ring in 2013 in Super Bowl XLVII. He was named to the Pro Bowl in ever season from 2009-2013 and was first-team All-Pro in 2010 and 2011.

Once his time in Baltimore ran out, Ngata spent three seasons with the Lions before signing with Philly as a free agent last year in hopes of winning a second ring.

In his final year, Ngata missed three games, but started in nine and played 36 percent of the Eagles’ defensive snaps. He finished with 17 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble.

For his career, Ngata tallied 519 combined tackles, 32.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, five recovered fumbles, five interceptions and one fumble recovery for a touchdown.

When Ngata's time to enter the Hall of Fame arrises, it won't be a long wait. The 35-year-old will be remembered as one of the most dominant two-gap defenders of his generation. Ngata had a unique ability to smother the run while also getting after the quarterback from his interior line position.

The Ravens' franchise has had no shortage of star defenders, and Ngata will still manage to go down as one of the best in Baltimore history.
