Earlier today it was reported that former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner was drawing interest from all three remaining teams from his former division the NFC West. The Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, and San Francisco 49ers allegedly had expressed interest in Wagner's services, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Things have seemingly changed for at least one of those teams. According to Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro, it would appear that the Cardinals have cooled on their pursuit of the former Super Bowl champion.

With the Cardinals out as a potential suitor for Bobby Wagner, that leaves the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers as the only NFC West teams that could potentially bring in the eight-time Pro Bowler to face his former team at least two times this coming Fall. The Cardinals, who released team captain and middle linebacker Jordan Hicks this week, are looking to get more of their young defensive core involved. Zaven Collins, who was the team's first-round pick in the 2021 draft, will likely step into the starting middle linebacker role for the departed Hicks.

At the NFL Combine last week, Cardinals general manager Steve Keim would all but confirm those plans. “Moving forward, there’s no doubt that we have to get those young kids involved more,” Keim said.

The Rams present a much different outlook after deciding to not retain linebacker Troy Reeder, who started 10 games for the Rams, including their Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. With Reeder out in LA, there would be a natural fit for Wagner at the MIKE linebacker spot.

Should Bobby Wagner decide to go the way of former teammate Richard Sherman and stay in the NFC West, it will have to be in the state of California.
