The Denver Broncos will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in an AFC West battle. It's time to continue our NFL odds series and make a Broncos-Chiefs prediction and pick.

This is a crucial matchup for both of these teams. The Broncos are currently in the thick of the AFC wild card race while fighting for the AFC West title. A loss here would tie the Broncos with the rest of their opponents in their division and deal a huge blow to their playoff chances. The Chiefs are currently in the lead in the division, but every single one of their opponents has a legitimate shot at taking away the AFC West crowns from them. A win here would go a long way in securing Kansas City's playoff berth.

Why Broncos Could Cover the Spread

Denver has been hanging around in games because of their defense, and that will likely be the case here. In the last three weeks, the Broncos have shut down the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Chargers. Those are two of the best passing offenses in the NFL, so this matchup with the Chiefs isn't all that intimidating. Kansas City was just held to 19 points and 260 passing yards by the Cowboys, so it's fair to expect a good performance from Denver's pass defense.

While the Chiefs have been playing well on defense recently, their past performances are too poor to overlook. Kansas City is one of the worst pass defenses in the league, as they allow a whopping 252 passing yards per game. They also allow a completion percentage of 67%, another one of the worst numbers in the league. Denver hasn't been particularly good on offense, but they should be able to move the ball here.

Why Chiefs Could Cover the Spread

Despite their strugglers to begin the year, this Chiefs defense has pulled together recently. They haven't allowed more than 20 points in a game in an entire month, including matchups with the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys. Denver has been one of the least explosive offenses in the entire NFL, as they routinely struggle to generate plays down the field. Kansas City shouldn't have too tough of a time on defense here.

It's late in the season, meaning that injuries are piling up for every single team. The Broncos are no exception. The Denver offense has been decimated by the injury bug, and several key players will likely enter this game with a questionable designation at best. Starting offensive linemen Bobby Massie, Dalton Risner, and Garett Bolles have all missed games prior to this one, so it's not unlikely that they miss this one. Starting defensive tackle Shelby Harris and starting safety Kareem Jackson are both questionable with injuries as well. The Chiefs will be playing a weakened version of the Broncos here, and they should be able to capitalize on that.

Final Broncos-Chiefs Prediction & Pick

Kansas City has been great lately, but this is a big line for a team that has been wildly inconsistent over the course of the year. Take Denver with confidence in this one.

Final Broncos-Chiefs Prediction & Pick: Denver Broncos: +9.5 (-114)
