The Philadelphia Eagles will face the New York Giants in a classic NFC East matchup on Sunday. It's time to continue our NFL odds series and make an Eagles-Giants prediction and pick.
In a surprising turn of events, the Eagles have played themselves into playoff contention. Philadelphia is 5-6 on the season, but a couple more victories will push them into one of the three wild card seeds. This is a perfect spot to pick up another win, as the Giants have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league. New York is coming off of a blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a defeat that dropped them to a 3-7 record on the season. Their playoff hopes are essentially gone, but a good showing against a divisional opponent would go a long way for the locker room's morale.

Why The Eagles Could Cover The Spread
It's strange to see the Eagles enter this game as such small favorites. They've won two games straight, and their last loss was a one-score affair against the tremendously talented Los Angeles Chargers. The Philadelphia offense has been especially potent recently, and now they match up with a subpar New York defense. The Giants allow 255 passing yards per game, which is one of the worst numbers in the league. They've been just as bad against the run, as they've allowed opposing rushing attacks to rack up 120 yards per game. The Eagles have been firing on all cylinders lately, and the Giants aren't nearly good enough to slow them down.
While the Eagles don't have the best straight up record, they've been one of the better teams in the NFL against the spread. They've earned themselves a 6-5 record ATS on the year, and a 2-0 record against the spread as favorites. Philadelphia has also covered four out of six games that they've played on the road. This looks like the perfect opportunity for another Eagles cover.
Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread
The Eagles have had similar problems to the Giants when it comes to the defensive side of the ball. Philadelphia ranks just above New York in terms of run defense, as they've allowed big days on the ground to the likes of the Tampa bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants aren't exactly an elite rushing team, but they should be able to get things going in this ball game.
New York certainly hasn't been a good passing offense this season, but there's reason to believe that that could turn around here. The Eagles just allowed a huge passing day to Trevor Siemian of the New Orleans Saints. Siemian and the Saints are actually pretty comparable to Daniel Jones and the Giants, so it's fair to expect a similar performance from Jones in this one. Helping matters is the fact that Darius Slay, Philadelphia's best corner, will likely be questionable for this game.

This is a slam dunk spot to pick the Eagles. There's no reason they should be favored by less than five, so hammer Philadelphia in this spot.
