The New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts will play in an AFC matchup on Thursday night to kick off Week 9 in the NFL. It's time to continue our NFL odds series and make a Jets-Colts prediction and pick.
The Jets are coming off an impressive win over the Cincinnati Bengals with backup quarterback Mike White, and will be looking to stay hot Thursday night vs. the Colts. The Colts will be looking to get back on track after a heart-breaking overtime loss to the division rival Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Carson Wentz threw a couple of costly interceptions down the stretch, so he will look to get back to taking care of the ball Thursday vs. the Jets. The Colts come into Thursday night as big favorites over the Jets, so maybe they are poised for a quick bounce back.

Why The Jets Can Cover The Spread
Mike White was on fire at quarterback for the Jets on Sunday, throwing for over 400 yards and helping the Jets put up 34 points in the win. They will face another tough test Thursday night on the road vs. the Colts, who are better than their 3-5 record shows. This spread being so high, it is still hard not to take the Jets in this spot. New York has yet to win a road game this season, and in general has been much better at home. White however looked to have good chemistry with his skill players, as the Jets had what was easily their best passing day of the season in Sunday's win over the Bengals.
The Jets could be in shape for another cover vs. the Colts on Thursday, as a short week could level the playing field a bit.
Why The Colts Can Cover The Spread
Even as the clear better team in this spot, it's still tough to lay double-digit points on a short week with the Colts. They have been pretty good since their 0-2 start, hanging with some of the better teams in the league in recent weeks, but they don't feel like a lock to blow anyone out. Carson Wentz got bit by the turnover bug on Sunday, so it might be wise to stay off the Colts on Thursday night.
Jonathan Taylor is a beast, but the Jets have shown flashes of being a solid run defense this season. If this were a full week, a Sunday game, the Colts would feel like a better play. On the short week however, it's a bit much to lay double digits vs. Jets team that just had their best game of the season and likely can't wait to get back on the field.
Final Jets-Colts Prediction & Pick
Take the Jets to cover this large spread on Thursday night, as the Colts have been a bit inconsistent and laying this many points seems like the riskier proposition.
