The New England Patriots will face the Miami Dolphins to end the season. It's time to continue our NFL odds series and make a Patriots-Dolphins prediction and pick.

New England has been one of the most surprising teams in the entire NFL. Coming into this season, there weren't many people that expected rookie quarterback Mac Jones to lead his team to a winning record and a playoff berth. The Patriots still have a chance to win the AFC East, as a Buffalo Bills loss and a New England win would mean yet another Pats division title.

The Dolphins don't have any chance of playing in the postseason, but a victory in this game would mean a lot. It would give Miami a winning record for the first time this season while simultaneously destroying New England's chances of winning the division. There's plenty to play for in this game, so it should be an interesting one.

Why The Patriots Could Cover The Spread

Despite their recent stretch of success, the Dolphins remain an unintimidating offensive team. Miami has been completely incapable of running the football all season long, as is shown by their average of 85 rushing yards per game. The Dolphins' running backs have also combined to average 3.4 yards per carry over the course of the season. Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has struggled to present a real passing threat to a good defense all year, and that won't change in this game. New England's top-ten defense shouldn't have much trouble in this game.

The Patriots have seen plenty of success on the road this season, especially against the spread. New England has earned an impressive 5-2 record ATS away from home, and two of those covers came on very similar spreads to this one. Miami is currently 4-4 against the spread at home, and 2-2 when they enter the game as home underdogs. The Patriots have proven that they're capable of covering in this spot, and there's no reason to think they won't here.

Why The Dolphins Could Cover The Spread

The Patriots are one of the most run-heavy offenses in the NFL, and the Dolphins happen to perfectly equipped to deal with that. Miami only gives up 108 rushing yards per game, and they've only allowed one 100-yard rusher over their last 11 contests. When New England faced the Buffalo Bills, they were held to an incredibly inefficient day running the football. The pressure was on quarterback Mac Jones to make plays, and he ended the day with a 43% completion percentage, 145 passing yards, and two interceptions to his name. Miami is certainly capable of forcing them to replicate that performance.

January football always means plenty of injuries, and the Patriots are no exception. A huge chunk of the New England roster will enter this game with a questionable designation, including a few key players. Starting wide receivers Jakobi Meyers and Nelson Agholor will both likely be game-time decisions, along with starting offensive linemen David Andrews and Isaiah Wynn. Starting safety Kyle Dugger and Dont'a Hightower have also landed on the injury report. The Pats could enter this game extremely shorthanded.

Final Patriots-Dolphins Prediction & Pick

This game will be a low-scoring affair. Both defenses have been consistently good, and they match up well to the opposing offense. Take the under with confidence, and the points with Miami if you're taking a side.

Final Patriots-Dolphins Prediction & Pick: Under: 40 (-110), Dolphins +6.5 (-110)
