The Indianapolis Colts surely could use an upgrade in the most important position in football. Lamar Jackson would definitely be one for the Colts, with Jackson still available for discussions with other teams this offseason following the Baltimore Ravens' decision to use the nonexclusive franchise tag on the dual-threat quarterback.

Whether the Colts would actually make a concerted effort to put together an offer for Lamar Jackson, however, is something that is a different topic.

Via Stephen Holder ESPN:

“Indianapolis did not rule out having discussions with Jackson, according to a team source. However, the club has not taken any substantive steps regarding Jackson and it is unclear whether it intends to do so. Team sources have expressed skepticism about pursuing Jackson.”

The franchise tag for Lamar Jackosn by the Ravens is worth $32.4 million for a year. Since it's of the nonexclusive variety, other teams can still contact Jackson and make an offer for him, which the Ravens would need to match in order to retain the former NFL MVP.

While other teams are reportedly not joining the Lamar Jackson sweepstakes, there is nothing for the Colts to lose if they are to reach out to the quarterback.

In 2022, the Colts' Matt Ryan experiment did not translate to wins on the field, with Indianapolis finishing the campaign with just a 4-12-1 record, which included a seven-game losing streak to round out a forgettable year.

At the moment, the Colts have Nick Foles, Gardner Minshew, and Sam Ehlinger as quarterbacks under contract.

Lamar Jackson appeared in 12 games for the Ravens in 2022 and passed for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns, and seven interceptions on a 62.3 percent completion rate. He also rushed for 764 yards to go with three touchdowns in 112 carries.
