The Washington Commanders currently hold a 3-4 record in 2023. Washington will have a number of decisions to make ahead of the trade deadline. Two key defensive players, Chase Young and Montez Sweat, are reportedly drawing interest from around the league, per Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.

“Meanwhile, it is my understanding, that there are several identifiable teams that have both interest in trading for either #Commanders DEs Montez Sweat or Chase Young, AND are willing to offer either a long-term deal ahead of free agency,” Anderson reported.

Will Commanders trade Chase Young, Montez Sweat?

Chase Young is only 24-years old but has established himself as one of the best defensive ends in the NFL. Young had a terrific rookie season in 2020 that saw him make the Pro Bowl team. He's dealt with injury concerns over the past few years though, playing in a total of 12 games between 2021 and 2022.

So far in 2023, Young has appeared in five contests. He's impressed, displaying signs of the player he was during his rookie campaign. Young has recorded five sacks and 14 combined tackles up to this point for the Commanders. Washington would surely prefer to keep Young on the roster, but trading him will net a quality return.

Montez Sweat is 27-years old and has performed well in 2023. Across seven games, the veteran has posted 5.5 sacks and 27 combined tackles. Sweat hasn't made a Pro Bowl during his career, but he's unquestionably a reliable defensive end.

We will continue to monitor and provide updates on the Commanders ahead of the 2023 trade deadline.
