The Atlanta Falcons announced on Thursday that the team has agreed to terms with first-round pick Kaleb McGary and fourth-round pick Kendall Sheffield on their rookie contracts.

The Falcons traded their second and third round picks to the Los Angeles Rams to move up to get McGary, who spent his college days with the Washington Huskies. McGary spent his time with the Huskies as the right tackle, but NFL analyst Lance Zierlein thinks a move to guard would serve him well.

McGary has been a right tackle his entire career, but that could change once his athletic limitations are challenged by NFL-caliber rushers. He would benefit from a move inside to guard where his strength and ability to generate movement as a run blocker would outweigh his issues with lateral quickness. McGary could find early starter's reps at guard, but struggles with balance and keeping blocks centered could lead to early growing pains that will require a team's patience.

Sheffield is a cornerback out of Ohio State that has elite speed, but at times his instincts have held him back which probably is why he fell in the draft. Zierlein points out that in the NFL he needs to prove that he is more than just a speed guy.

Inconsistent outside cornerback prospect with rare speed and explosiveness, but lacking the ball skills and instincts of an NFL cornerback. Sheffield has the twitch for ball production underneath and the long speed to handle vertical workers, but his inconsistency to find and play the football once it comes out of the quarterback's hands is problematic. Relative to his fluctuating career, his ceiling is fairly high thanks to his speed and explosiveness, but he needs to prove he’s more than just a fast guy.

The Falcons have signed all their picks except for their other first-round draft pick Chris Lindstrom. All of the rookies are expected to be present when the team starts rookie minicamp on Friday.
