Heading into this offseason, the Denver Broncos are expected to be one of the most active teams in the league looking to upgrade at the quarterback position. This has become their clear plan of action as free agency period has inched closer, now just a couple of weeks away, and the Minnesota Vikings' Case Keenum could be in play.

This year's crop could include a few intriguing options being available on the open market that could step in immediately to help turn things around in Denver. According to Troy Renck of Denver7 ABC, Broncos could be a potential landing spot for Keenum in free agency with Minnesota expected to let him walk.

This came shortly after it was reported that the Vikings are not going place the franchise tag on Keenum before the March 6th deadline. However, much of this effort will hinge on what transpires with Pro Bowler Kirk Cousins in free agency, as the front office is anticipated to be a serious suitor to land him, possible as a frontrunner.

Denver has constructed a well-balanced roster on both sides of the ball that could quickly make them a contender with the right player under center next season. This could allow for either Cousins or Keenum to take over the reins and lift the franchise back into the playoffs.

Keenum is coming off a career-best season across the board with 3,547 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions while holding a 98.3 quarterback rating in 15 games played.

He finished second in the league with a 67.8 percent completion rate and seventh in quarterback rating. Keenum also posted a passer rating above 100 eight times while throwing multiple touchdowns seven times.

What could also work in the Broncos' favor is that the asking price for Keenum won't be nearly as high as Cousins'. The 29-year-old is expected to cash in on his breakout year with the Vikings, but it should keep him in the ballpark of a reasonable price to bring him on board. Ultimately, things should receive clarity as the free agency period draws closer.
