Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson has missed practice time this week due to an undisclosed injury, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.

Somers notes that Johnson was a mere spectator during voluntary organized team activities on Thursday. When asked about the status of his star running back, Coach Steve Wilks did not exactly offer a clear reply:

“It's the offseason, and I'm not going to really indulge in injuries or things like that,” Wilks said. “We're going to talk about the guys that are out there.”

Somers adds that when asked previously about players being held out, Wilks has answered by saying it was due to precautionary reasons. However, he conspicuously responded in a different manner when asked about Johnson.

Johnson missed virtually the entire 2017 season after he fractured his ankle in the season opener. He’s been fully cleared since April and had been fully participating in practice prior to this week.

The Cardinals conclude their offseason program next week with a three-day mandatory minicamp. Unless Johnson’s potential injury is more serious than expected, chances are he should be able to participate by then.

The Cardinals should be eagerly anticipating the return of their star running back after a lost season. In his last full season prior to the injury, Johnson had 2,118 yards from scrimmage and 20 total touchdowns.

Johnson also came just 121 receiving yards short of becoming only the third player to have 1,000 yards rushing and receiving. Johnson has already stated that joining that club will be one of his goals this season.
