Adam Thielen took to Twitter and quote-tweeted Pat McAfee's announcement, with a gif of the Panthers mascot named ‘Sir Purr' doing some kind of dance, which is not easily describable.
The signing itself does not come as a surprise. The Panthers traded away star wide receiver DJ Moore to the Chicago Bears in the deal that landed the Panthers the first overall pick. All signs point to the team selecting a quarterback with that pick, so the team needed some new weapons its a rookie signal-caller, whether that be Bryce Young, CJ Stroud or another prospect.
Article Continues BelowThielen was expected to visit the Panthers days ago, and now a deal is in place. The Panthers have been rumored to be targeting DJ Chark along with Thielen as well.
The Panthers signed quarterback Andy Dalton earlier this offseason, so the rookie quarterback might not start right away, but no matter who is under center, Thielen is going to be a key piece of the offense.
Thielen and DJ Chark aren't the same caliber of receiver as DJ Moore, but it could be a lot worse when it comes to a receiving corps. The Panthers could also get further help at receiver in the NFL Draft.
Theilen, entering his age 32 season, is not what he was during his prime, but he hopes a change of scenery will aid a resurgent season in 2023.
