It only took until Week 2 for the Chicago Bears coaching staff to get a real glimpse of rookie quarterback Justin Fields in regular season action, as he featured in the team's narrow 20-17 home win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.
Due to a knee injury, Bears starting quarterback Andy Dalton was forced to leave the game in the second quarter. Fields subsequently entered the game for the second time and finished the contest as the team's quarterback.
It was not the most efficient home debut by Fields, especially as he fumbled once and threw a costly fourth quarter interception to Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson that set up a pivotal late touchdown drive for Cincinnati.

Fields comes away from his home debut with plenty of takeaways. For one, he sees there is much to work on at this early stage in his career, as he believes that this outing was not the best version of himself. In speaking following the Bears' Week 2 win over the Bengals, Fields gave his initial thoughts on his performance.
“I don't think that I am pleased with how I played at all,” Fields said. “There's a lot more in me that I have to show. I know that is going to come with time. I know it's not going to happen overnight, so I am just going to keep grinding.
“No matter what happens, I know I'm meant for this. I'm meant to be here. My path here has been crazy. When I was younger, I never thought I would be in this position, so I'm here for a reason. I definitely think that I can play better and just think that this is just the beginning.”

It remains to be seen on whether Dalton will be available for the Bears' upcoming road clash against the Cleveland Browns. If Dalton ends up not receiving the green light for this game, then Fields will be in for a grand test in what will be his first career start in the NFL.
