By showing that they can hang with NFC North division favorites Green Bay Packers in last Sunday’s heartbreaking 24-23 loss to Aaron Rodgers and company, the Chicago Bears have forced sportsbooks to shorten their NFL Future odds to win Super Bowl 53 from +6,600 to just +4,000, as seen from the prices of each teams on BetOnline.ag.
Although they were victimized by another legendary performance by Rodgers, the Bears showed they can rattle a Super Bowl contender like Green Bay, which entered the contest favored to win by seven points in most sportsbooks.
The arrival of Khalil Mack to Windy City definitely played a big role in the significant shift of Chicago’s odds to host a Super Bowl parade next year. Mack played against the Packers as good as advertised, as the linebacker terrorized Green Bay’s offense, coming up with three total tackles, a sack, and an interception which he returned for a touchdown. The Bears held Green Bay scoreless in the first half, but failed to sustain their defensive success in the second half in which they were outscored, 24-6.
If Chicago’s offense improves and gives the team’s fantastic stop unit a worthwhile complement, the Bears are going to give opposing teams bigger headaches.
