The Chicago Bears may have to deal without star outside linebacker Khalil Mack in the lineup against the Buffalo Bills. Mack is deemed unlikely to play as he continues to deal with an ankle injury, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Bears’ DE Khalil Mack, listed as questionable for Sunday due to a sprained ankle, is unlikely to play vs. Bills, though Chicago wants to see him pregame before making any final determination, per source.

Mack initially suffered the injury back in Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins. He played the following week against the New England Patriots but was clearly not his same dominant self.

Mack missed out last week against the Jets after missing a couple of practices. He followed a similar rehab plan this week, but it seems he still might not be able to go.

At this point, it seems like the wise move for the Bears would be for Mack to sit out another week and allow him more time to heal. It’s not as if the Bears would greatly benefit from a diminished version of Mack.

Moreover, with the Bills set to start Nathan Peterman, the Bears should still be able to beat the Bills even without Mack in the lineup.

It would make much more sense for the Bears to hold Mack out another week and hope he’s able to return for their pivotal three-week stretch from Weeks 10-12 where they meet two division rivals in the Detroit Lions (twice) and the Minnesota Vikings in between.
