Chicago Bears defensive end Khalil Mack has been a one-man wrecking crew in the 2018 NFL season. Unfortunately, his status for Chicago's matchup versus the New York Jets is not looking too bright.
Mack has been listed as questionable all week due to a sprained ankle. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, he will likely see limited snaps even if he does play:
Article Continues BelowBears’ LB Khalil Mack, listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Jets due to a sprained ankle, will work out pregame to determine whether he can, per source. Even if he can play, he might just be limited.
Mack's potential absence would certainly deal a blow to this Bears defense. He has put in an early bid for his second Defensive Player of the Year award with a spectacular start to the year. The three-time Pro Bowler has registered 20 tackles, 5.0 sacks, four forced fumbles, and an interception which he returned for a touchdown. However, it appears the Bears will be taking a cautious route with his progression and for good reason.
Although Chicago would love nothing more than to get back into the win column after a two-game skid, it will not be worth risking any further injury for Mack. The Bears made quite the investment to bring him over. It would not make much sense for them to have him potentially aggravate his ankle.
Regardless, it seems Mack is poised to see limited action. Quarterback Sam Darnold will certainly be thrilled with this development after the worst outing of his career last week.
