The Chicago Bears are slated to host the New Orleans Saints coming out of the bye. Fortunately, it appears the extra rest time worked to quarterback Mitchell Trubisky's advantage.
Trubisky has been nursing a dislocated shoulder he suffered versus the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4. He says that he is close to getting back to full health, via Twitter.
Article Continues BelowTrubisky says he “feels close” to 100% and looks forward to showing in practice this week that he's ready to go on Sunday.
This is certainly an encouraging update from Trubisky himself. It is clear that he would like to be back in action against the Saints in Week 7. His showing in practice the rest of the week will likely determine whether or not the team clears him to play. Regardless, it is safe to say that the bye week could not have come at a more ideal time for the Bears.
There is no question that Chicago's offense has fallen vastly short of the expectations they set in the offseason. Trubisky has struggled mightily in all but one game in the 2019 NFL season. There is now growing speculation about the team's decision to trade up for him in the 2017 NFL Draft when Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson were still on the board and are now playing at an MVP level.
Fortunately, Trubisky still has more than enough time to turn this offense around. Even if he does not play this week, his comments indicate that he could be nearing a return in Week 8.
