While the Chicago Bears haven't been horrible this season, they also haven't had a stellar campaign thus far. This could be due to the fact that they have a bit of a shortage in talent in the quarterback position — something that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo might be able to fill next term.

According to reports, the Bears will be in the market for a new QB in the offseason, and Garoppolo is one of the top names on their list. This is via Dan Pompei of The Athletic:

Jimmy Garoppolo also could be available, but a team might have to trade for him. It probably would take a second or third-round pick for the Bears to bring the Rolling Meadows native home. Of course, the 49ers also could decide to cut him and settle for a compensatory draft pick in 2022, but that seems unlikely.

That's an interesting idea. Garoppolo has been relatively impressive this season — while he's on the field, that is. Injuries have plagued him this year, and his most recent ankle injury has put him out indefinitely. The 29-year-old recently suffered a recurrence of the high-ankle sprain he sustained early in the season, which may point to the fact that he rushed his return. He will now have to sit out the next several weeks, which might have an adverse effect on his potential trade value.

The Bears could use a lot of help in the QB department, and Garappolo seems to be a good fit. His current contract stipulates that he is set to earn over $50 million over the next couple of seasons, and this may serve as a stumbling block for any trade deal. However, the fact that he's already collected the guaranteed money should smooth things out.
