Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is having a stellar stretch that has given the currently 7-7 AFC North squad a chance of making the playoffs. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, league executives believe the 26-year old's strong play as of late has earned him a chance to return to Chicago next season.

In the eyes of some NFL executives, Trubisky recently has played some of the best football of his career, making a case as to why Chicago will need to consider re-signing him.

Since getting reinserted into the starting lineup, Trubisky has completed 91 passes on 134 attempts, going for 978 yards. He has also recorded eight passing touchdowns and just three interceptions over this stretch.

It certainly seemed like Trubisky's tenure with the Bears was coming to an end after they declined his fifth year option earlier in May. The writing definitely seemed to be on the wall after Chicago benched him in Week 3 and inserted newly-acquired quarterback Nick Foles into the starting lineup in the succeeding week.

However, with Foles dealing with a hip injury, Trubisky got another chance to be a starter in Week 12. Since then, he has proven that can be Chicago's long-term solution at quarterback.

The numbers also favor the 26-year old. Chicago has gone 5-2 this season with him in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, they are just 2-5 with Foles as the starter. In addition, the Bears have gone 24-12 with Trubisky starting under head coach Matt Nagy.

If the Bears do indeed complete their bid to make the postseason with Trubisky leading the way, Chicago's front office will certainly have a lot to think about this off-season.
