The New York Jets made a big offer to the Oakland Raiders for Khalil Mack before the Raiders decided to trade Mack to the Chicago Bears, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

The reported offer included a 2019 first-round pick and 2020 second-round pick, plus additional compensation.

However, the Jets believed the Raiders didn't want to trade Mack to another AFC team, and Oakland agreed to the deal with Chicago once it was happy with the return. There were no further negotiations with New York once that happened.

The trade ultimately saw the Raiders acquire a 2019 first-round pick, 2020 first-round pick, 2020 third-round pick and 2019 sixth-round pick in exchange for Mack, a 2020 second-round pick and a 2020 conditional fifth-round pick. Mack then signed a massive six-year, $141 million extension with Chicago.

Mack was a devastating force with the Bears up until he suffered an ankle injury that has left him limited the last couple of weeks. Even with his production down of late, the 27-year-old superstar still has 5.0 sacks, four forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception return for a touchdown on the season.

Meanwhile, the Jets' defense has clocked in at slightly below average. New York ranks 19th in yards allowed per game and 17th in points allowed per game. The team's 15 sacks on the season is tied for 20th.

The Jets will go up against Mack and the Bears this Sunday at Soldier Field. While the linebacker has been hampered in recent weeks, Jets coach Todd Bowles is preparing for the dominant version.

“We expect to get the same player on Sunday –the dominant player he's always been,” Bowles said. “So, we just got to prepare.”

New York is 3-4 on the season, while Chicago is 3-3.
