The Chicago Bears unloaded extra baggage heading into the latter stages of the season as they released wide receiver Ted Ginn after the league trade deadline, as per ESPN‘s Adam Schefter.

Ginn has been a tenured journeyman bouncing off several teams since being drafted back in 2007. His seventh destination turned out to be Windy City where where he signed a one-year deal with the Bears during the offseason.

He managed to see action on the field when Bears running back and punt return specialist Tarik Cohen suffered a torn ACL injury back in their Week 3 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

The former Ohio State Buckeye was eventually slotted in by Bears head coach Matt Nagy to be Cohen's replacement as the punt returner. He underperformed, to say the least. Ginn failed to successfully field punts during his brief stint from Week 4 to Week 7 for the team. His struggles prompted the Bears to sign veteran wide receiver and return specialist Dwayne Harris to take over his role instead.

Through six games played this season, Ginn only amassed a total of 40 receiving yards on three receptions without a touchdown scored. With the recent roster move, perhaps a change in scenery is needed for him to rejuvenate his longstanding career in the NFL.

The Bears recently came off a tightly-contested 23-26 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 8. They currently hold a 5-3 record to take hold of second place in the NFC North division behind the Green Bay Packers. Bears head coach Matt Nagy and his troops will aim to snag a win against the Tennessee Titans in Week 9 action.
