The Chicago Bears have a tough game ahead of them as they play the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8. The offense is still in disarray as Mitchell Trubisky struggles to become the quarterback the team needs him to be. Khalil Mack will be an important player for the Bears as they try to break their losing skid and restart a winning streak.
Of course, football games are won by getting more points than their opponents. However, a strong defense would probably be the only way for Chicago to get their much-deserved victory as they struggle to put things together offensively. They will be counting on the defense to stop the Chargers from scoring, and Mack will be leading the front to stop the Chargers from getting the W.
The biggest reason why they need Mack to step up is due to the poor performance of Mitchell Trubisky. The third-year quarterback is still putting up uninspired performances against teams they have a good shot of winning against.
Trubisky's abysmal performance against the Denver Broncos in Week 2 is something many fans are frustrated with to this day. His yards per pass attempt have also taken a dip compared to last season at 5.2. It's been the lowest yards per pass that he's had in his professional career so far.
Trubisky isn't looking like the answer to the team's problems, and the Bears front office has tough decisions to make if they feel the North Carolina product isn't the long-term solution to their worries. However, not a single one of their options can provide immediate relief to their QB problems.
With that being said, it's important for Mack to be able to stop the Chargers offense. Trubisky needs near-perfect conditions to be able to sift through his indecision, and the Chargers not building up a hefty lead is key to that.
Article Continues BelowThe second-most important reason for Mack to step up is the Chargers' great passing game.
Their Week 8 opponents are currently ranked third in the NFL when it comes to passing yards per game at 293.4. Philip Rivers is still a very dangerous QB in Year 16 of his incredible career. In the past seven games, he's notched 2,114 passing yards and 11 touchdowns on a decent 66.3% pass completion rate. The defense can expect him to be a dangerous opponent to guard.
Fortunately for the Bears, they still have Mack in the team. He's notched 4.5 sacks and forced four fumbles in seven games. One can argue that he's won the Bears several close games in the process.
The usually silent linebacker could be saying a couple of words ahead of this game. After all, this could become the game that will make or break their season. And if Mack wants it bad enough, he could lead the Bears to a win no matter how poorly the offense plays.
