It’s not good to be in the shoes of Chicago Bears kicker Cody Parkey right now. He’s arguably the most hated man in Windy City today and for the next several days after he lived through the worst nightmare of any player in his position: that’s missing a manageable and potentially game-winning field-goal attempt in front of a home crowd in a playoff game.

He didn’t have to leave the field first, though, before getting a taste of what his life is going to be for days to come, as disappointed Bears fans showered him with boos as he was making his way off the field and into the locker room following a 16-15 heartbreak of a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at Soldier Field.

Needless to say, it was a sad way to end a season for the Bears, especially when considering the fact that they won the NFC North title on the strength of a 12-4 record in just the first year of Matt Nagy’s stint as head coach of the franchise.

Parkey had hit the upright five times during the season and him doing it again in the playoffs was tragic, but not entirely unexpected, given the number of times he’d done so over the duration of the 2018 NFL campaign.

Despite an early exit from the playoffs, the Bears will enter next season still with one of the most promising and talented rosters in the league.
