The Cincinnati Bengals came close to ending their winless streak this past Sunday in Green Bay, but it was clear that the they needed more help to snap out of their early-season funk.

Unfortunately, the arrival of Cincinnati's best reinforcement has been delayed. ESPN's Adam Schefter heard through a source from the Bengals that tight end Tyler Eifert is expected to miss multiple weeks with yet another injury to his surgically-repaired back from the offseason.

Eifert, who broke out in 2015 with 13 receiving touchdowns, simply can't catch a break when it comes to his health. The 27-year-old out of Notre Dame has missed a total of 28 games already, which accounts for nearly half of his expected playing time through his four seasons in the NFL.

He has yet to play a full 16-game regular-season slate and has landed on the injury report a total of 11 times already during his professional career, per Sports Injury Predictor.

It's quite ironic that even though Eifert was healthy for the first two weeks of the season, the Bengals failed to score a touchdown despite having their best red zone target in the lineup, and only when Eifert was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Packers did the offense show some signs of life while nearly pulling off the upset in Lambeau.

Nonetheless, the Bengals should be a much better team with their former first-round pick serving as Andy Dalton's security blanket in the passing game. But, if Cincy somehow starts stringing together some wins despite Eifert's absence, the team might want to consider its future without its top tight end. Eifert is currently in the final year of his rookie contract.
