Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is getting set to hit free agency this off-season, but he might not go anywhere.

According to Tyler Dragon of The Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals will attempt to slap a franchise tag on Green if they are unable to reach an agreement with him before free agency opens in March.

Green has been sidelined since training camp due to an ankle injury. Earlier this week, he said he likely wouldn't be playing in either of Cincinnati's final two games of the season.

He has also stated that he won't hold out if the Bengals franchise tag him.

As talented as Green is, he may have some difficulty securing a long-term pact on the open market even if Cincinnati doesn't place a franchise tag on him.

Not only has the 31-year-old not played at all this season, but he missed seven games in 2018 due to a toe injury, which resulted in Green missing the Pro Bowl for the first time since entering the NFL in 2011.

Injuries also limited Green to just 10 games in 2016, so assuming he does end up missing Weeks 16 and 17 this year, he will have played in only 35 of a possible 64 contests over the last four seasons.

There is no denying that Green is an elite wideout when he is healthy. He logged five straight 1,000-yard campaigns to begin his career. During his last healthy season, three years ago, he hauled in 75 receptions for 1,078 yards and eight touchdowns.

However, rival clubs may be a bit hesitant to pay big bucks over multiple years for an aging receiver who has had a whole lot of difficulty staying healthy over the last several seasons.
